L'house water is ours neutral, acidic, alkaline, hard or sweet? It is right to use tap water to drink or it is healthier to buymineral water? In the world, we Italians are the ones who drink the most mineral water and therefore, those who produce the most PET plastic waste. All these plastic bottles, if not properly managed, end up polluting the environment: gigantic mountains of garbage scattered everywhere, even in the ocean! Sometimes, particularly in Southern Italy, the bottles end up being incinerated, producing nano particles that are harmful to health. Yet, in this eternal dispute between mineral water and tap water, running water wins.

With the'tap water we have the possibility to change things for the better and to do it at no cost. Tap water has the advantage of being checked very often at the origin, controls that give us, at least in theory, the guarantee of compliance with the legal limits with regard to the substances it contains. However many of us are curious about analyze home water to discover its characteristics and goodness with parameters such as pH, hardness, nitrites, nitrates, chlorides and sulphates.

How to analyze drinking water
Having the water analyzed in a specialized laboratory has a cost that, for a single condominium, can be really too high. You can make thedrinking water analysisautonomously and economically?

This is ImmediaTest, the disposable kit for analyzing the quality of domestic water. The do-it-yourself kit allows you to evaluate the quality of the water that comes out of the tap in a simple and fast way. The kit allows you to perform aanalysis for each of the six parameters: pH, hardness, content of Nitrates, Nitrites, Sulphates and Chlorides. It costs only 14.90 euros plus expenses and it is possible to buy it online on the Fem2Ambiente website, or, for those who do not like online purchases, can find it in concessionary pharmacies.

The do-it-yourself kit does not require special technical skills or tools of any kind. Just follow the instructions under the lid carefully to be able to perform awater analysis in a few minutes. These are "colorimetric strips", 5 different strips to analyze the pH, hardness, the content of sulphates, chlorides and nitrate-nitrites: they change color in the presence of certain substances dissolved in water.

Once the strips are immersed in water for a few seconds, they will take on different colors depending on the characteristics of thewater that is being analyzed. By comparing the colors assumed by the different strips with those shown on the reading sheet, available in the kit, you will have the result of the quality of your water in relation to the legal limits in force (DL 31 of 2001).

What to do after the analysis?
On the basis of the measured parameters and the results obtained, the most suitable "purification" system can be chosen. Inside the kit there is a table, created in collaboration with Altroconsumo and Legambiente, which will help you in choosing the most suitable domestic water treatment system.
