In this article we have explained what the electrical retrofit, and what are the costs to be faced for the transformation of an andothermic motor car into an electric car. Now let's take a few more steps in describing the advantages of retrofitting, which in addition to cars can be practiced on motor vehicles and bicycles at increasingly lower costs than buying a new vehicle.
But let's start by saying that only from January 2013 (however little is missing) the rule introduced by the Development Decree will pave the way for the solution of the re-registration problem (almost a nightmare for those who venture there) today can only be solved by passing through Germany, with subsequent importation of the vehicle. It is safe to bet that once this bureaucratic aspect is resolved, our streets will be filled with R4, 2CV, Dyane etc ... but this time with zero emissions.
We said at the beginning of the advantages of introducing the retrofit, well they can be both private and collective and the main ones are the following.
• Energy saving. The electric car has an energy efficiency two times higher than that of an endothermic vehicle, with an average life that is at least ten times higher. Specifically, the overall energy efficiency (taking into account the efficiency of production, transport as well as that of the engine) of an endothermic car (on average between petrol and diesel vehicles) is 17-19% while that of a similar electric motor is about 34% (Source: ENEL).
• Reduction of waste. The retrofit allows to avoid the scrapping of millions of vehicles. The electric car increases the average life of the engines: from 100,000 km for traditional engines to over 2 million for electric ones.
• Greater environmental sustainability. No new cars are produced and fewer resources are used while emitting less CO2. The use of electric vehicles locally involves a reduction of fine dust and PM10 derived from combustion.
• The conversion takes place in the local workshops. The mechanic thus becomes a zero-kilometer producer, as well as maintenance of electric cars. Economically unsustainable and centralized industries are not created, a new manual ability is recovered by reviving a sector in crisis, the second-hand market is revived.
• Economic saving. Both citizens and public administrations benefit from it, especially in the case of electric bikes. The cost for each kilometer covered by a car (for example a Fiat Punto 1.2) is € 0.74 / km, while that of an electrified bike is € 0.02 / km, this combined with the savings in terms of fares, insurance and maintenance could translate into savings for the public administration, for companies or for individual citizens of about 2,700 euros per year for each vehicle replaced with an electric bike.
